I love reading with my kids. In addition to the pleasures of reading out loud, I get a lot from having discussions with them about what we've read. One thing that I have found makes it easier for me to remember important details from the book is by making a list of questions together and then checking them off one by one as we find answers in the text. In this post, you'll find a few ways to make your next family read-aloud more interesting and interactive with your kids. If you want to make an interactive list for your next read-aloud, there are a few ways you can do that. The simplest way is to use sticky notes and just record questions as they occur to you. If sticky notes aren't your thing, here are a couple of options that might appeal more: Bookmark: Use a bookmark for each child to record their questions or thoughts about what you've read so far. Ask them to write down their questions and ideas and tell them they can use the bookmark for this purpose any time we're reading together. Notebook: Everyone in the family might like to keep a notebook or journal about what we're reading. You could give each person his or her own notebook, and an old-fashioned pen (hey, it works better than trying to type questions), and encourage them to write down their thoughts about what they've read.
